The Covid crisis forcibly pushed forward the transformations within the luxury sector that began before the pandemic. For instance, how is the luxury empire responding to its many challenges, such as the new ways of consumption and distribution, the widespread digitalization, the growing importance of sustainable development and the circular economy, the explosive entry of gaming, the irruption of the metaverse and NFTs, among many others? How has this sector been able to bounce back? Has the global supremacy of leading luxury companies been confirmed, or are new players emerging and creating fresh competition?
Highly documented with numerous testimonials from key players in the sector, this book is an immersion into the fascinating world of luxury. Essential for understanding what is at stake in this key sector of the world's economy, it gives an account of the emergence of a "new normal" generating new demands, rules and standards.
Compliance Law is defined by the Monumental Goals it pursues.
Willingly or by force, companies must structure themselves and act to reach them. In a major and global transformation, they are thereby becoming transparent, making Compliance Tools visible.
Emphasizing the unity of these Tools promotes a unified legal regime, while adapting them country by country, sector by sector, company by company. Understanding these Compliance Tools to anticipate the assessment made by Regulators, Supervisors and Courts, and the provisions of future texts, while companies are invited to invent new ones, is hopefully more appropriate.
General perspectives through which risk maps, compliance programs, deals and judicial agreements, ad hoc training, algorithms, audits, sanctions, controls, whistleblowing, collective actions, etc. are scrutinized. Co-published with the Journal of Regulation & Compliance.

This Liber Amicorum, which pays tribute to Gilles de Kerchove, EU counter-terrorism coordinator from 2007 to 2021, takes stock of what has been achieved in this field in recent years and looks at the challenges ahead.
After an introduction tracing the recipient's background, the first part looks at different aspects of cooperation within the European Union, ranging from the European arrest warrant, to the protection of fundamental rights and the role of certain EU institutions or agencies.
The second part deals with cooperation between the EU and the rest of the world, both with global organisations and with specific States, such as the United States. The third, cross-cutting part brings together various contributions relating to the Islamic State, the financing of terrorism, victims and new technologies. The book concludes with a fourth part on prevention, the fight against radicalisation, values, freedom of the press and literature.
The authors come from various parts of the world and present a wide range of profiles, including prominent political figures, EU officials, academics, magistrates and journalists. The book was coordinated by Dr. Christiane Hhn, Principal Advisor to Gilles de Kerchove, Isabel Saavedra, his Personal Assistant and Prof. Anne Weyembergh, Professor at the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB).
The economic take-off of Beijing and other BRIC countries shakes the global economic map. To develop a sustainable economy, they need, as the old industrial countries, raw material that abounds Africa. This book proposes to disentangle the African partner's economic strategies and to penetrate the mysteries of diplomacy and international business relations.

This book celebrates EXPO by trying to help people understand how hunger can be ended quickly and how the world can feed itself sustainably.
Studies of the overall impact of robotics on the economy have shown that investments in its various sectors – industrial, professional and service robotics – are increasing globally and the markets associated with them are valued in billions. Robotization improves the competitiveness of enterprises, while collaborative robotics reinvents methods of production.
Beyond the economic outlook, service robotics, backed by the development of artificial intelligence, raises challenging ethical and social issues.
The legal analysis of robotics is no mean feat because it covers a very diverse technical reality. Companies whose businesses are focused on robotic technologies and applications can be confronted with a complex legal situation resulting from the plurality of the applicable rules which have not necessarily been conceived or adopted bearing in mind their specific constraints.
This situation should not hamper their development. It only implies taking cues from the economic legal norms which promote such developments and conducting an analysis of the legal risks which they face, given the applicable rules of liability.
This comparative study – carried out by members of the Lexing® Network – proposes an overview, having regard to the legislation of 17 different countries, of the legal issues raised by robotics and the way the law in force responds, in a more or less satisfactory manner. Finance and real estate that this book aims to analyse are two significant variables for the economic growth of an emerging economy like China during its four decades' reform and opening-up.
Chapter One will analyze China's restructuring in finance: banking & credit system reforms, WTO-oriented reforms, among others - a thorny issue for Chinese State-owned banks and enterprises.
Chapter Two will focus on China's restructuring in real estate. As a controversial sector in China, real estate is a pillar of growth but faces a risky bubble. In fact, different variables have contributed to the expansion of the Chinese housing market. Finally, policy recommendations will be advanced.
This book introduces the reader to key legal provisions and case-law related to the procedural and substantive issues that may arise in damages litigation for breach of anti-competitive agreements and abuses of a dominant position prohibitions.
For the past decade, academic publications have focused on the proposal for a Directive on damages actions, then the Directive 2014/104/EU of 26 November 2014 itself, and finally the transposition texts. However, this understandable interest should not lead to overlook the fact that the Directive has been applied very little until now. This is mainly due to its application ratione temporis. In addition to the fact that Member States only transposed the Directive between the end of 2016 and 2018, Article 22 of the Directive provides that the substantive rules contained in the Directive cannot be applied to infringements subsequent to the national laws transposing them, while the procedural rules of the Directive apply to proceedings commenced on or after 26 December 2014. Thus, it is prior domestic law that continues to govern the vast majority of cases before national courts in the "Pre-Directive era." In addition, a number of issues of the utmost importance have not been addressed by the Directive, such as questions of international jurisdiction or the quantification of "interests." For these reasons, it seemed necessary not to limit this book to commenting on the Directive, important as it is, but to go beyond it.
Directed by Rafael Amaro, this book contains the contributions from leading academics, attorneys, jurists and economists in the field of the private enforcement of competition law. It is composed of thematic chapters dealing with matters such as applicable law in international litigation, limitation, quantification of damages, from both a European Union and a national perspective, as well as national chapters presenting the state of play in several European States.
This essay shows that the covid 19 has become a social phenomenon that deeply imprints individual and collective behaviours, both in social distancing and in solid laarity. He interprets the pandemic as a radical change, an unprecedented shift in the course of societies. This Coronavirage is an opportunity for the author to examine, from Tunisia, another order of the world.Tunisian society is apprehended in a new geopolitical framework : its links with the United States and its allies in the Near East, in a context of American-Chinese rivalries and the weakening of Europe. Tunisia is revealed in its internal logic of response to the pandemic, notably by the persistence of political and financial corruption, as well as by the resurgence of the parallel market and informal practices. In this perspective, the author in respondent to a new project of social and solidarity economy, which would take place in the construction of a third sector, in complementarity with the respondent to the private sector, to replace the current informal and clandestine practices.
This book is the first to combine a legal and an economic approach to the violation of international investment law and the evaluation of their financial consequences. It is intended for arbitrators, lawyers, legal experts and financial experts.
It will also be useful for academics who study this issue, which crosses disciplinary lines. The cross-disciplinary approach proposed by Mikael Ouaniche and Stéphane Prigent in this original work reflects the dual nature of the debates that irrigate the practice of State-investor arbitration, through a rigorous analysis of arbitral case law. As Laurent Jaeger, President of the French Arbitration Committee, who prefaced the book, says: "Lawyers and arbitrators will be able to improve their understanding of economic and financial valuation methods; experts will be able to improve their understanding of the underlying legal mechanisms. [...] It took all the experience and talent of Mikael Ouaniche and Stéphane Prigent to marry law, economics and finance so harmoniously".
"We all know that our world has become very indebted over the past decades and that its `financialization' has reached proportions never observed before, at least in peacetime. But how serious is this phenomenon? What are its consequences on the solidity of our financial system, on the functioning of our economy and on the future of our society? Above all, we must understand how our world has surreptitiously changed its model for the past two decades. It has slipped to a strange paradigm, one in which the bulk of economic activity is now reflected in the rise in the value of financial assets at the expense of growth, wage income and productive investment. It is time to put an end to the reign of illusion and to reinstate the fundamental economic springs without which there can be no real growth." J. de L. "No one alive today combines Jacques de Larosière's experience with an acuity about global finance. His sharp and cogent expression of alarm in this timely volume deserves and even demands the attention of the global financial community." Lawrence Summers, Former Secretary of the United States Treasury and President Emeritus of Harvard? "This is a must-read for those who want to understand the `economic illusions' hiding in plain sight. And for those who are prepared to step-up to the benefit of a new generation." Kevin Warsh, member of the Federal Reserve Board (2006-2018), and professor at Stanford "The book is a harsh criticism of the fairy tales that have guided monetary theory and the actions of central bankers in recent decades." Vito Tanzi, Honorary President of the International Institute of Public Finance Jacques de Larosière spent his entire career at the head of financial institutions: he was first Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (1978-1987) before becoming Governor of the Banque de France (1987-1993), then president of the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (1993-1998). He is currently Advisor to the president of BNP-Parisbas.
---- European private law results from the continuous interaction between different integration processes. Its expanding scope redraws the shape of many legal boundaries, be they substantive or territorial, and along with these evolutions come mutations in legal regulation. This book considers these phenomena by successively adopting a general/methodological and a specific/disciplinary approach. The degree of Europeanisation varies depending on the legal field involved. To discuss the boundaries of European Private Law leads therefore to discuss the objectives, obstacles and limits to Europeanisation. It also underscores the relativity of the (continental) boundary between public and private law.
=========== Yves Poullet has not merely served but excelled in all functions of the University world. Whether as professor, researcher, director of a research centre or as dean and rector, he has left a lasting impression in the minds of generations of students, researchers, colleagues and peers. He is a preeminent expert on the law of Internet and Information and Communications Technologies who, already in 1979, pioneered one of the first European research centres in the field.
This volume is a tribute to Yves Poullet from colleagues, friends, former PhD researchers, offering their reflections on the reciprocal influence of law and technology. These contributions highlight both the range of expertise and the extent of the European and international networks he has nourished. They address the three main research axes Yves Poullet has developed through the years: law, norms and freedoms.
The authors of this volume pay homage to a mentor, a friend, but above all to an exceptional researcher who has sown countless seeds in the field, enabling a luxurious landscape to grow and become a source of inspiration for many scholars. This is the heritage of a genuine thinker, a real academic.
Although Guinea has important assets in natural resources, hydroelectric energy, agricultural, land and fishing resources, it has not succeed to the present day to use them to transform itself and establish the economic and social development so awaited by its people. The author gives to the government the keys to inclusive and sustainable development based on the endogenous capacities of the country.
